Donations Pour in for Team Hope 4 Mike
It poured heavy rain most of the day! But that didn’t dampen the spirits of AtHome America’s Hope 4 Mike team members, as they gathered along Chicago’s gorgeous lakefront for the annual ALS Walk4Life.
Held Sept. 13, 2008, the event raises funds and awareness for the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. In 2003, Mike Wright, husband of AtHome America co-founder, Becky Wright, was diagnosed with ALS. Each year, AtHome Team members, friends, family and HomeStyle Specialists proudly participate in hopes of finding a cure for Mike and other afflicted with ALS.
Coming Together for the Cause
The walk raises money for ALS research, awareness and education, as well as care and support for people with ALS. To date, Team Hope 4 Mike has raised more than $21,000 for this year’s event, and the donations continue to pour in! Since its beginnings, AtHome America has raised more than $250,000 for the cause, both through the walk, and customer donations of a special campaign product, Words of Truth, Hope.
This was the third year in a row that Home Team Merchandising Member Wally Krol attended the event. “So many people were there, and we just huddled under the tent during the rain. It was fun. Ironically, it stopped raining as we started the walk,” he said. “This is a terrible disease. We hope a cure is around the corner.”
“HomeStyle Specialist Cheri Sieger, from Coal City, Illinois, also attended the event. “When I met Mike Wright, I was in awe of his courage and his genuine way,” she said. “I have helped with ALS Tag Days for the past three years, and I thought it was time to help with the walk.”
AtHome Takes the Lead!
Team Hope 4 Mike had the most donations that day, and was given the privilege of leading the walk. Kelly Rockers, AtHome America HomeStyle Specialist and All Star Leader traveled from Topeka Kansas to be AtHome’s Grand Marshall. She won the honor by donating to a fund-raising raffle for the cause. Kelly brought her husband, Matt, and their children, daughter Logan, 7, and son Ryan, 4.
“It was so much fun getting to know Becky and Mike on such a personal level and hanging out with the other AtHome Family members. Matt had a blast, and we’re already planning on coming back next year,” she says.
