The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, provides relief to victims of disasters worldwide. Modeled after the International Red Cross, the American Red Cross was founded by Clara Barton in 1881 to serve America in times of peace, war, disaster and national calamity. Each year, the American Red Cross responds immediately to more than 67,000 disasters, including house or apartment fires (the majority of disaster responses), hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hazardous materials spills, transportation accidents, explosions and other natural and man-made disasters. The tragic events of September 11, 2001, are considered to be among the greatest tragedies our country has ever faced and the Red Cross continues to offer support to victims.
How AtHome America Helped
Within hours of the events of September 11, it was determined that all AtHome America fundraising efforts through the end of 2001 would be devoted to those who suffered from the events of that horrible day. This included the sale of selected patriotic products along with additional donations received from our salesforce, vendors and Home Office members. More than $120,000 was raised for the American Red Cross and presented to them at a national company event in February 2002. The funds were earmarked to assist the families of the victims of September 11.
