AtHome America Donates $3,500 Retail to South Carolina Family!
For the fourth time this year, and ninth time overall, AtHome America has donated home-decorating products and necessities to a family in need through Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. This brings the total amount of donated items to more than $40,000!
Renee Wilson and her four grandchildren had been living in a dilapidated trailer in Longs, South Carolina. She took the children into her care three years ago, after their mother deserted them. Not wanting them to be split up into foster families, she took a job as a lunchroom lady at a local school to help support her family. Two of the children’s teachers contacted Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and nominated the Wilson family to receive a new home.
The children, Hakeem, 10, Timothy, 8, R.J., 7, and Erica, 5, were ecstatic to receive a new home. They had previously been living with their grandmother in a two-bedroom, run-down trailer literally held together by duct tape, poor insulation and a sagging roof.
While the family spent a week at the Walt Disney World® Resort, crews and volunteers tore down the trailer and built a new home for the family. They also received a new Ford Expedition. AtHome America was proud to donate almost $3,500 in home-decorating products to the Wilson family. The family received dishes and kitchen essentials, blankets, candles and candleholders and a variety of floral arrangements and tabletop accent pieces.
